In Vegas

From a letter Samuel Clemens wrote to his sister, Pamela, and his mother, Jane, from the Nevada Territory, October 25, 1861
The country . . . is fabulously rich in gold, silver, copper, lead, coal, iron, quicksilver, marble, granite, chalk, plaster of Paris, (gypsum,) thieves, murderers, desperadoes, ladies, children, lawyers, Christians, Indians, Chinamen, Spaniards, gamblers, sharpers, coyotes (pronounced ki-yo-ties,) poets, preachers, and jackass-rabbits.

Posting will be light for a few days, as I’m off to Vegas for a wedding. If I can just stay away from those preachers Twain was warning the womenfolk about, I should be okay.
